Offsite Construction: CIMC MBS

Project: Developing safe systems of work for the offsite manufacturing facilities across various projects. Supporting with all aspects of CDM 2015

Sectors: student accommodation
              hotel and hospitality
              housing (apartments)

The growing trend towards modular buildings and off-site manufacture of building systems is well documented. There are strong indicators that offsite building systems are set to play a significant role in the future of the construction industry. As such Safety Smart are delighted to be working with key players from within this field.

One such client is CIMC Modular Building Systems. We have been working alongside CIMC (MBS) since October 2015 and the partnership is set to continue throughout 2017 and hopefully beyond. We have been appointed to provide Health & Safety support and to work with CIMC as part of their management team.

Founded in 2004, CIMC Modular Building Systems (CIMC MBS) has been phenomenally successful, so much so that they are now the leading provider of modular buildings and modular building systems in the world. Building across a number of sectors including hotel and hospitality, student accommodation, apartment and workforce accommodation, they have successfully demonstrated how their innovative design and patented building technology can truly alleviate traditional build constraints via shorter build time.

It is Safety Smart’s role, as part of the management team to devise, implement, maintain and continually look to improve the Health & Safety Management system. We carry out regular construction site audits across all sites and provide individual reports as well as summary spreadsheets to highlight developing trends/areas of concern. We assist with any accident reporting and investigation and are also responsible for the development of a training matrix.

Anthony Tetlow, Safety Smart’s Director comments,

“CIMC conduct extremely high risk work on a daily basis, namely lifting 25 tonne containers (shipped in from China) around with 500 tonne cranes. A proactive approach to Health and Safety and a watertight Health and Safety management system are absolutely imperative. There is no room for complacency and thankfully CIMC are well aware of this and absolutely committed to getting things right. There are exciting times ahead for CIMC and we wish them every success”
